Mothers Day Mini’s

Location: Mugdock Country Park -

I play to do the sessions in the field across the main car park at Mugdock near Abie’s loch (Dumbrock Loch).

If you Park in the main car park where the visitor center is. Come back out of the car park back onto Craigallian Road. and follow the road down to the left on foot. On the opposite side of the road there is a farm gate which has a sign saying “hot tottie sauna). Go through this gate and follow the path along to the loch. You will see me around this area just off the path. it’s a beautiful location at the foot of the Campsie hills.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your session starts to make sure you know where you're going and to allow the day to run smoothly. The Glasgow sessions are fully booked so If you are late I cannot offer you any extra time. Sessions are 20 minutes long with a 30 minute time slot to allow the sessions to run smoothy.

When you do arrive please be considerate of the session that is taking place before yours by staying back and giving space  so they don’t feel like they are being watched. Getting your photo taken can be nerve wracking for let’s face it, most people, so please give some space so people don’t feel under the spot light.

Timings.

Weather.

The weather looking like it is going to be dry on Sunday (YAY!) however if it does rain sessions will still go ahead. I will bring some white umbrellas to protect you from the rain. The light is beautiful when it rains so all you need to do is dress appropriately so all children are comfortable especially when it comes to being cold. The forecast says there will be a high of 10 degrees and a low of 6 degrees.

Getting the most out of your session.

What to wear.

The most important thing is that you are comfortable, especially the kids. Wrap them up warm if it’s cold. When it comes to style of clothes that look best in photos try not to wear clothes with large logos or patterns. Natural color’s work well. Try not to have clashing colors between you all.

Snacks, snacks, snacks, snacks. I know I am pointing out the obvious here but I am a mum of young children myself. I know the wrath of a hangry child. Please feed your kids before the sessions so they are not hungry and bring snacks if you think your child will get hungry before the session or after. A little bit of bribery goes a long way. Come on, you know we all do it! If you have to promise a bit of chocolate or a sweet treat to help kids play ball, do it. I won’t judge. Please just try and not give snacks during the sessions. If kids are eating during the session this will be in the photos. You may have to also promise the dad’s a beer or some quiet time later if he also plays ball and pretend’s he loves the idea of getting his photo taken.

During the session:

  • SMILE. I know it can be hard relaxing in-front of the camera but try as hard as you can to make the most of the session by being as natural as you can and smiling!! It might seem obvious but it’s amazing how many people forget to smile when they are nervous.

  • Don’t look at the camera. Concentrate on the kids and other family members. You know your kids. You know what might make them laugh or feel more comfortable. Throw yourself into it. Tickle them, thrown them in the air (this is aimed more at the younger kids. Teenagers may think you're an absolute weirdo if you try and do this), tell them jokes, blow raspberries (again for the youngsters) or swing them round. I will help you on the session but let yourself go and enjoy being with your kids. I will get a couple of photos of you all smiling at the camera but I also want to capture your personalities by lots of movement and interaction with each other. Chat to them and pretend i’m not there. If I want you to do something like look at the camera I’ll ask you. Relax and smile.

  • Kids will be kids and sometimes let’s face it they can have melt downs. If they do please don’t stress or get upset with them. I will try to distract them. You know what it’s like, sometimes they listen to other people more than mum and dad. I am prepared to make a fool of myself by trying to get them to smile. I have 3 young children of my own who can be colorful little characters so nothing phases me I promise.

  • The most important thing is that you have fun. Chat to the kids, smile, give lots of cuddles and enjoy being with your loved ones.
