Mothers Day Mini’s
Location: Edinburgh Inver Leith Park.
I am planning on taking the mini sessions at the top of the hill over looking the duck pond in Inver Leith Park. Sometimes locations or areas can change due to last minute obstacles or weather so I plan to check out the location the morning of the 9th first thing. I will text everyone (on the number provided at the time of booking) in the morning with a location pin through WhatsApp. If you are not on WhatsApp I will use text.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your session starts to make sure you know where you're going and to allow the day to run smoothly. If you are late it impacts your session and has a knock on effect to further sessions and therefore the rest of the day.
When you do arrive please be considerate of the session that is taking place before yours by giving them space and not standing close by watching over them. Getting your photo taken can be nerve wracking for let’s face it, most people, so please give some space so people don’t feel under the spot light.
Sessions are 20 minutes long with a 10 minute buffer to help make the sessions run smoothly.
Timings.
Weather.
The weather looking like it is going to be dry on Sunday however if it does rain sessions will still go ahead. I will bring some white umbrellas to protect you from the rain. The light is beautiful when it rains so all you need to do is dress appropriately so all children are comfortable especially when it comes to being cold. Wrap them up nice and warm.
Getting the most out of your session.
What to wear.
The most important thing is that you are comfortable, especially the kids. Wrap them up warm if it’s cold. When it comes to style of clothes that look best in photos try not to wear clothes with large logos or patterns. Natural color’s work well. Try not to have clashing colors between you all.
Snacks, snacks, snacks, snacks. I know I am pointing out the obvious here but I am a mum of young children myself. I know the wrath of a hangry child. Please bring snacks if you think your child will get hungry before the session. A little bit of bribery goes a long way. Come on, you know we all do it! If you have to promise a bit of chocolate or a sweet treat to help kids play ball, do it. I won’t judge. You may have to also promise the dad’s a beer or some quiet time later if he also plays ball and pretend’s he loves the idea of getting his photo taken.
During the session:
SMILE. I know it can be hard relaxing in-front of the camera but try as hard as you can to make the most of the session by being as natural as you can and smiling!! It might seem obvious but it’s amazing how many people forget to smile when they are nervous.
Don’t look at the camera. Concentrate on the kids and other family members. You know your kids. You know what might make them laugh or feel more comfortable. Throw yourself into it. Tickle them, thrown them in the air (this is aimed more at the younger kids. Teenagers may think you're an absolute weirdo if you try and do this), tell them jokes, blow raspberries (again for the youngsters) or swing them round. I will help you on the session but let yourself go and enjoy being with your kids. I will get a couple of photos of you all smiling at the camera but I also want to capture your personalities by lots of movement and interaction with each other. Chat to them and pretend i’m not there. If I want you to do something like look at the camera I’ll ask you. Relax and smile.
Kids will be kids and sometimes let’s face it they can have melt downs. If they do please don’t stress or get upset with them. I will try to distract them. You know what it’s like, sometimes they listen to other people more than mum and dad. I am prepared to make a fool of myself by trying to get them to smile. I have 3 young children of my own who can be colorful little characters so nothing phases me I promise.
The most important thing is that you have fun. Chat to the kids, smile, give lots of cuddles and enjoy being with your loved ones.
