Toni and James @colstounhouse Toni’s infectious smile had me grinning my way throughout the day. With Toni’s smile and James sarcasm I felt right at home with these guys. Toni is from New Zealand and James from Scotland. A lot of aspects of their wedding reminded me of my own. I welled up as I watched their first dance. They danced to super furry animals hello sunshine. Toni cried with happiness throughout, surrounded by their closest family and friends, it reminded me of my first dance with my husband. When the emotions of the day hit me full pelt. Looking around seeing everyone I loved. My best friend from Australia dancing beside my sisters, alongside my school friends and My husbands family. Moments like those are so bloody special. How often in our busy lives are we hit by overwhelming happiness. I’m feeling sentimental today, hence the gushy post. I miss people that are very far away from me right now and take comfort in looking at images like these. Toni and James thankyou for letting me capture your day. It was a real honour. One of my favourite things about weddings of the candid photos. Capturing the moments between family, friends and loved ones. These are the photos to me that define weddings. However I also like to capture arty images of the two of you. Not everyone is romantic and snuggly. I’ll take your lead. These two were a bit of everything! When I first started photographing weddings the idea of winter weddings with such a small window of light, rainy wet weddings or dark venues scared me. It was a daunting process to learn how to get the most out of low light venues and days where it rained all day so couldn’t get outside. Now I love low light and rainy days. Just as much as I love bright days with harsh contrasting light. You can get beautiful photographs at any time of the day if your photographer knows what they are doing. If there’s no light they’ll make some. If it’s harsh light they’ll use it to their advantage. If your going to cut your budget somewhere on your wedding day don’t do it on your photographs if they’re important to you. Especially if your getting married in the winter in Scotland. Pick a photographer that knows what they are doing and one that has the right kit. I’ve heard so many horror stories recently from friends of my coupes that I get chatting to at weddings who’s photographs were ruined by ‘photographers’ that either weren’t confident in low light or didn’t have the experience....or kit. I had an amazing engagement session with Euan + Ali up #conichill on an incredibly beautiful Scottish day last month then it was followed by their incredible wedding @crear_weddings Ali is a fashion designer in Canada so it came as no surprise how amazing she looked on the day.
